Caterpillars etc

For the first time I’ve managed to get an internet connection from the ground and hence the initial post. Close of play 4/176 so close to my forecast but what a last session! The message about digging in seems to have got through and Malan and Root did just that! A solid partnership was undone in the last few minutes to bring Australia back into the match, having wasted their reviews early on. Mickey taking by the Barmies was in spades.

The second innings has shown that England have fight and grit but I fear it may be an innings too late. A better performance by England all round but the fragility of the top order includes now Cook has to be a concern.

Tomorrow entry is by charity donation but the match and series to date show why the idea of four day tests is ludicrous!

England still have a long way to go, I think the result will be close if England dig deep in the first hour but I think Australia will shade it…but we shall see.

  1. First 18 overs until the new ball is key, I would think. But even if we get through that Cummins with a new ball is still a tough ask for our middle order. Need our batters to learn to be at the top of their backlift before Cummins releases the ball. Poor technique from Malan.
